Facebook Placing Your Real Friends First

like_bandedIt felt like yesterday when you could start a page and reach a nation on Facebook. Well that is now old news and probably better for the long run for more of a healthier social platform. Facebook has changed the algorithm to place your friends first. Making a lot of page owners feel lost in the dirt. It’s been getting crowded with page posts as well as sponsored posts but if you take a little bit of a closer look at the feed the people have been doing a pretty good job at sharing advertising. Although it seems to be a much stronger emphasis to pay to play on the FB people are still doing a brunt of the advertising.

Remember the good ol days when people treated social media like personal blogs. The days when people posted pictures of the family at the beach, maybe a picnic with the dogs. Now when you open your page up it’s people posting memes, political, religious, health and all those great little nuggets of most of the time bland information. Well, all those memes are crafty work of great advertising, whether it down to earth or controversial that pseudo-intellectual content is great advertising. It turns out that the general populations that use FB are great marketing machines.

Over the Years people have liked a ridiculous amount of pages, humorous, political and straight up nonsense. That’s a crowded collection of pages people have. If Facebook lets those pages have free reign then social media would lose its social status. The free ride just burnt its self out.

The question is how you get your message through to the people? Well of course there is pay to play but it can be effective or not all depending on the content. In walks the Brand evangelist and treating your page like a group more than a just a page to feed brand narcissism. I still see social brands doing well but they are the ones that built up FB groups and communicate to the people through their brand evangelist. Yes that means actually interacting with your page visitors from both the brand as well as the brand evangelist. That brand evangelist can also join active groups on face book and ninja like get your content in front of the people. This will help pass the content baton to the people for sharing.

Like a ninja don’t be so obvious you’re selling with your content and people will have a better time of picking it up. Don’t sweat it, there are more social platform options and now is the time to incorporate them. Write content wisely and interact. Like I said before FB needs to control the feed or else it would lose the ability to call itself a social platform.
